English, week of February 27-March 2, 2012 February 24, 2012

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, students will have an in-class timed writing over a writing prompt of their choice.  All five prompts have been given in class.  Students may prepare as much or as little for this ahead of time as they would like.  They will have 45-50 minutes in class to write their final copy.  It is a test grade.Prompt Writings 2012

We will begin a poetry unit this week, starting with Shakespeare’s sonnets including “That Time of Year Thou Mayst in me Behold,” and “My Mistress’ Eyes are Nothing Like the Sun.”

Students will begin a study on words from French.

This week in English, we are watching The Diary of Anne Frank.

 

Students will get their fifth prompt writing on Friday.  Students will have an in-class timed writing on Monday/Tuesday of next week.  This will count as a test grade, and students may choose any one of the five prompts to write a multi-paragraph essay.

Students are exploring exponents, exponent rules, and exponential functions.  This week, we are covering sections 8.2-8.5 from the text.  There is a quiz on Wednesday covering 8.1 and 8.2.

Students in both Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra have exams this week.   Please note that the final day to submit late work for a grade will be Friday, February17th, 2012.  Students submitting late work must grade the late work in the grading area.  Late work receives 20% off and is ineligible for a redo (3 redos are allowed during any grading period). 4 Chaperones Needed February 10, 2012

We need chaperones for our field trip to the HMNS on February, 21.  We will leave the school at 8:45 and should be back by 2:15.  We are visiting the Civil War exhibit along with the original Emancipation Proclamation.

This week in English, we are finish up our study of Maus I by Art Speigleman. I have tentatively scheduled to give the test Friday, 2.17.  Students received a study guide in class.  For a copy, click here:  Maus I study guide

 

Students will have a quiz over the Greek word parts on Wednesday/Thursday this week.

 

Literature circle 2 and the independent reading test is scheduled for Monday/ Tuesday, February 13/14.  Students may use their book on this test.
